"Prefer nothing to the love of Christ"--Rule of St. Benedict
God in his infinite love calls each man or woman to a particular form of life. Inspired by the Gospels, the Monastic ideal originated in the early years of Christianity and has always remained an integral part of the life of the Church. Monastic life by its very existence speaks of the primacy of the life of the spirit. By the cultivation of his spiritual life, and by his dedication to prayer and silence, the monk reminds his fellow men that there is a 'contemplative inner dimension' to everyone.
